- Horizon Power brings Sunshine Saver to the Mid West, guaranteeing energy savings
June 13 2024
Horizon Power is now offering Sunshine Saver to customers in the Mid West towns of Cue, Yalgoo, Sandstone, Wiluna, Meekatharra and Norseman.
Initially launched in Esperance in October 2023, Sunshine Saver is an opt-in subscription subscription-based plan designed to help customers who do not have access to rooftop solar to save on their energy bills. With our investment in the local renewable energy farms generating lower cost energy, we are able to pass these savings onto our customers.
Sunshine Saver is available for renters, concession card holders, and customers identified with ongoing financial challenges. Sunshine Saver customers are guaranteed to save a minimum of $197 annually and can increase savings more by using energy between 6am and 6pm, when our solar farms are generating power.
In November 2023, a $19.9 million investment from the Federal and WA State Governments boosted the program enabling this expansion to the additional six Gascoyne and Mid West towns. This funding boost also supports the State Government’s Kimberley Communities Solar Saver program. It's installing rooftop solar in five remote Kimberley communities, easing living costs for many.
CEO Stephanie Unwin is proud of Sunshine Saver's expansion. She highlighted Horizon Power's push for energy equity and for all to enjoy the shift to sustainable energy.
The product supports the State Government’s Distributed Energy Resources Roadmap and 2030 emissions reduction goal.
Horizon Power staff visited Cue, Meekatharra, Sandstone, Yalgoo, and Wiluna in late May and met with customers eager to know more and start saving with Sunshine Saver.
If you live in an eligible town you can sign up online or by calling 1800 267 926.

Today is International Volunteer Day - a moment to celebrate our volunteering champions and everyone whoโs rolled up their sleeves over the past year. This yearโs theme, Every Contribution Matters, is especially close to home for us. Across Horizon Power, our people have shown time and again that meaningful change doesnโt come from one big moment - it comes from hundreds of small, generous acts. From packing school supplies with Give Write, sorting donations at Good Sammy Enterprises, lending a hand at local community events and festivals, right through to tree-planting, food drives and regional volunteering days, our people have stepped up for the communities we proudly serve. And the impact shows: ๐ธ 165 employees have volunteered in the first five months of this financial year ๐ธ Contributing 1,100 hours of hands-on support ๐ธ Backing 25 not-for-profit organisations across WA ๐ธ With 240+ hours volunteered in our regions - from the Kimberley to the Pilbara, the Gascoyne and the Goldfields-Esperance Every hour, every effort, every contribution really does matter ๐ช
